Peer-to-Peer Texting

Peer-to-peer texts are sent from a small pool of numbers that will be provisioned by Impactive when you publish your peer-to-peer actions. Volunteers' personal phone numbers are NOT used for Peer-to-Peer Texting.

You can customize the area codes of the phone numbers used for Peer-to-Peer Texting; when setting up your peer-to-peer action, you'll indicate which area code(s) you want to use for that action.

The set of area codes available to be selected for each action is the list that you indicated when you initially submitted your texting registration (though Impactive cannot guarantee availability of numbers for all area codes). You can edit your organization's set of available area codes by visiting Campaign Settings > Peer-to-Peer Texting. If you need help obtaining more than four area code options, or with any other area code questions, reach out to [email protected] anytime.

Note that if a contact replies to a peer-to-peer texting number, that contact will be sent future peer-to-peer text messages (replies from a user, and also any future initial scripts as long as they're from actions that use the same area code) from that same number - this maintains the same "thread" on their phone's messaging app, so they know who they're talking to. However, if a contact does not reply, they may receive future initial scripts from a different number; this design is intentional, as organizations have shared with us that they prefer not to repeatedly text unresponsive contacts from the same number (creating a clear "thread" of unanswered messages in the contact's messaging app).

Broadcast Texting

Broadcast texts are sent from your organization's broadcast texting number, which is one single phone number that is provisioned for your organization when you initially submit your texting registration.

You can find your Broadcast Texting phone number in your Campaign Settings, under Broadcast Texting.

This is the phone number that will send ALL of your broadcast texts (initial messages and any replies). Therefore, your broadcast subscribers will receive messages from your organization within the same "thread" on their phone's messaging app, so they'll always know it's you.

The area code of your broadcast texting number can be customized (though Impactive cannot guarantee availability of numbers for all area codes). You'll indicate your initial area code preference when you submit your texting registration form. If you need to change your broadcast number/area code in the future, reach out to [email protected] anytime; just keep in mind that changing your number will mean that future broadcast texts are received by your contacts from a different phone number than they used to be.

Impactive can also support short codes (five-digit numbers, ex. 12345) for broadcast texting; reach out to [email protected] to learn more about the process of transferring or obtaining a short code.
