Setting Admin Permissions
Updated over 2 weeks ago

Users are the folks that use Impactive, i.e. have an Impactive account. This includes administrative/staff users and volunteer users. Impactive offers four role types for users - three admin roles with different levels of permissions, plus a role for volunteers.

The Volunteer User Role

The "Volunteer" user type is just what it sounds like - it's for your volunteers! Users designated as volunteers do not have access to the Impactive administrator dashboard; they only have access to the volunteer web/app frontend interfaces.

Administrator Roles

There are three role types of Impactive administrative/staff users, and those three roles offer different levels of permissions within the Impactive administrator dashboard. These three types are Owner, Admin, and Staff, with permissions descending in that order.

Owner Role

Owner users have full administrative permissions within the Impactive admin dashboard, and are the only role type that can view the Billing tab. They can also manage the roles and add-on permissions of all other users, including themselves.

Admin Role

Admin users can access most functionality within the Impactive admin dashboard, other than the Billing tab. They can manage the roles and add-on permissions of other Admin and Staff users, but not their own.

Staff Role

Staff users have minimal permissions by default, but can have add-on permissions (see below) added for increased functionality. They cannot manage the roles and add-on permissions of other users, including their own.

Administrator Add-On Permissions

To allow for further customization of administrative roles, Impactive offers additional customizable add-on permissions. Each permission is default ON for certain roles (usually Owner), and default OFF for other roles (sometimes Admin, usually Staff) - the defaults for each role type are described below.

To edit add-on permissions for a given user, locate that user within Users > All Users and click the menu at the far-right of that user's row to Change Permissions.

Publish Actions Add-On

  • Owner: Inherent permission within Owner role, cannot be edited

  • Admin: Inherent part within Admin role, cannot be edited

  • Staff: Default ON

Allows the user to publish actions. With this permission OFF, the user can still draft and save actions, but cannot publish them.

User List Management Add-On

  • Owner: Inherent permission within Owner role, cannot be edited

  • Admin: Inherent part within Admin role, cannot be edited

  • Staff: Default OFF

Allows the user to view the Users tab, add users to lists/teams, and use the Engage tab to send communications to users.

Export Permissions Add-On

  • Owner: Default ON

  • Admin: Default ON

  • Staff: Default OFF

Allows the user to create exports within Data > Exports. Also allows the user to view contacts' phone numbers within contact list or individual contact pages.

Welcome Message Sender Add-On

  • Owner: Default OFF

  • Admin: Default OFF

  • Staff: Default OFF

Allows the user to join the pool of welcome message senders - messages that are sent to new users when they join Impactive, if configured in Campaign Settings > Volunteer Onboarding. Note that welcome messages cannot be sent unless at least one user in the campaign has the Welcome Message Sender Add-On toggled to ON.

Data Management Add-On

  • Owner: Inherent permission within Owner role, cannot be edited

  • Admin: Inherent part within Admin role, cannot be edited

  • Staff: Default OFF

Allows the user to edit tags, custom fields, and integrations (API keys and sync instructions) within the Data tab.

Sync Permissions Add-On

  • Owner: Default ON

  • Admin: Default ON

  • Staff: Default ON

Allows the user to sync their personal contacts to Impactive, within the volunteer web/app interface.

Broadcast Sender Add-On

  • Owner: Default ON

  • Admin: Default ON

  • Staff: Default OFF

Allows the user to send or schedule blasts via Broadcast Texting.
