Adding Users to Impactive
Updated over 2 weeks ago

Users are the folks that use Impactive, i.e. have an Impactive account. This includes both administrator users, and volunteer users.

There is one way to invite administrator users to Impactive, and multiple ways to add volunteer users to Impactive.

Adding Administrator Users

Administrators must be individually invited via the administrator dashboard. Head to the Users > All Users tab, and find the + Invite User button at the top-left of the page. Paste in the user's email address, select their role, and, optionally, customize their permissions (more on roles and permissions here).

Once you click Send Invite, the user will immediately receive an invitation email to the email address you indicated. They can click the button in that email to activate their Impactive account and access your campaign. (Note that the invitation link in these emails expires within 30 minutes, but invitees can regenerate a new link themselves - there's small text underneath the main button in the invitation email that invites them to regenerate their link.)

There is no limit on the number of administrators you can add to your campaign, and you are NOT billed per-user.

Adding Volunteer Users

There are three ways to add volunteer users to your campaign: inviting them individually, sharing your campaign's join URL, or sharing your campaign's join code. You can choose which method works best for you, depending on how you manage your volunteers and (if applicable) structure your onboarding and training program.

Inviting Volunteer Users Individually

You can invite volunteers individually, via the same method used to invite administrators. Head to the Users > All Users tab, find the + Invite User button at the top-left of the page, paste in the volunteer's email address, and click Send Invite.

The volunteer will immediately receive an invitation email to the email address you indicated. They can click the button in that email to activate their Impactive account and access the volunteer interface of your campaign. (Note that the invitation link in these emails expires within 30 minutes, but invitees can regenerate a new link themselves - there's small text underneath the main button in the invitation email that invites them to regenerate their link.)

Sharing Your Campaign's Join URL

Your campaign's join URLs are located at the top of the Campaign Settings page in your administrator dashboard. There are two join links: one for the volunteer web interface (for computers) and one for the volunteer mobile app interface (for smartphones).

You can share these join links with your volunteers to help them join your campaign on Impactive. This method is helpful for onboarding many volunteers at once - for example, convert the join link into a QR code (using any free online QR code generator, like this one) and paste that QR code into a deck/powerpoint displayed at a volunteer event/training, or print it onto flyers to post around the event/training.

You can either choose one of the join links (web or mobile app) to share with your volunteers and encourage them to use Impactive via that interface (web or mobile app), or share both join links and let volunteers decide whether they would prefer to start with web or mobile app. Don't worry - no matter which way they sign up, they'll always be able to interchangeably use either format with the same login.

Regardless of which join URL you share, the link will lead volunteers to Impactive. The web join link will send them to the Impactive website (app.impactive.io) in their web browser, and the mobile join link will send them to the app store for their device (iPhone or Android) to download Impactive. Either way, they'll then input their email address and proceed through a simple sign-up flow that is specific to your campaign. After they sign up, they'll find themselves on your campaign's homepage in the volunteer interface.

Sharing Your Campaign's Join Code

Your campaign's join code is also located at the top of the Campaign Settings page in your administrator dashboard.

The difference between join codes and join URLs is that by using the join code, volunteers will need to navigate to Impactive and begin signing up on their own - during the sign-up process, they'll be asked for the join code. This is different than the join URL method (see above), because the URLs send volunteers to Impactive automatically without them having to find the website or mobile app on their own first.

If volunteers can find the Impactive website (app.impactive.io) or the Impactive mobile app and begin signing up, they'll then enter the join code and finish their sign-up, before landing on your campaign's homepage in the volunteer interface.

If you have volunteers who have already used Impactive, they can join your campaign (in addition to any other campaigns they're part of) using the same join code:

  • For web: Click the campaign profile picture in the top-left of the volunteer web interface, then click Join other campaign... Volunteers will then be prompted to input the join code. They can switch between their campaigns with this same method (clicking the campaign profile picture in the top-left.)

  • For mobile: Click the campaign name at the top of the home tab in the volunteer mobile app, then click Join another campaign... Volunteers will then be prompted to input the join code. They can switch between their campaigns with this same method (clicking the campaign name at the top of the home tab).
